Adhering artificial turf to concrete can be challenging because of the variety of concrete surfaces, and the fact that concrete is porous.
The key to a successful installation is to use a quality adhesive that will bond well to both the artificial grass and the concrete.
Gluing Artificial Turf To Concrete
Here are 5 steps to glue artificial turf to concrete:
Step 1: Prep the concrete for artificial turf.
Remove any debris or dirt from the concrete using a broom or leaf blower. Remove any oil, grease, or other contaminants with a degreaser and warm water.
Rinse the area thoroughly and let it dry completely before proceeding to step 2.
Step 2: Apply an adhesive to the concrete and artificial turf
Apply a thin layer of glue to both surfaces using a paint roller. Roll out any air bubbles that form as you apply the glue.
Let the glue set for at least two hours before proceeding to step 3.
Step 3: Lay down & secure the turf
Start at one end of your project area and lay down one strip of artificial turf, making sure that it is straight and even across the entire surface.
Secure it in place by applying weights along all edges, particularly along corners where seams will be visible later on when you install additional pieces of turf.
Repeat this process until you have covered your entire project area with artificial turf strips, overlapping each piece by about half its width so that no seams are visible between them when they are laid side-by-side later on in step 4.
You may need more than one roll of artificial turf depending on how large your project area is; make sure to purchase enough material ahead of time if this is likely to be an issue for you, as you don’t want to run out halfway through!
Step 4: Trimming the turf
Trim off excess material around edges using a utility knife or sharp scissors.
Lay down another strip of synthetic grass overtop these trimmed edges, covering up any exposed concrete underneath them as well as any visible seams between individual pieces of turf installed earlier in step 3 above (you can also use scissors or a utility knife here if your new piece overlaps less than half its width).
This will hide all visible seams between pieces installed earlier in step 3 above (you can also use scissors or a utility knife here if your new piece overlaps less than half its width).
Step 5: Let the glue dry
Let the glue dry for at least 24 hours before using the artificial turf. After letting the glue dry, you can lay down any infill material of your choice and then install the artificial turf on top of it.
The infill material will add cushioning to your synthetic grass surface and help it to stand up better over time.
If you are not using an infill material, make sure to let the glue dry completely before stepping onto the artificial turf surface, as any moisture that gets trapped under the glue may cause it to fail prematurely.
FAQs
What kind of glue or adhesive should to use to adhere artificial turf to concrete?
There are many different kinds of adhesives that can be used to install artificial turf.
The most common is a hot melt rubberized adhesive, which is applied in a thick layer and then rolled out.
This type of adhesive works well with artificial turf because it is flexible enough to move with the turf, yet strong enough to hold the turf in place.
